Léo Cilas aka ASTO

Spray Gallery is delighted to be the first UK gallery to represent ASTO in the UK, an exciting self-taught artist from Montpellier. From commencing graffiti writing at the age of 10, and working in studio since 2013, ASTO's work has become a phenomena of geometry and form. Interweaving shapes, colours and shadows to provide depth and volume, ASTO's career has seen the shape-shifting artist create murals, floor frescos and carry out live paintings. Inspired by his passion for architecture/town planning, design, nature and his surrounding environment, he keeps to a striking, minimalistic palette. Although he is an expert on the urban environment, the artist is also influenced by the unknown. Using spray, acrylic and tape to create his studio work, he has a passion for 'upcyling' (giving a second life to obsolete everyday objects), like wine barrels, radiators and saws. ASTO has a notorious presence on the Montpellier scene, and he continues to leave a trace of enthusiasm and lucidity as his work is shown here in the UK for the first time.
